Inner city children from The Salvation Army After School Program were treated to a special shopping trip from one local foundation.
Former Buffalo Bills lineman Ruben Brown and Santa Claus greeted dozens of kids from the center’s youth program on the West Side at Target in Depew Friday evening.
There, they broke down the game plan. The children had full reign of the store and a $40 Target gift card from the Ruben Brown Foundation to buy that special something for someone they love.
Brown said his foundation is designed to advance youth development through education and sports. He said the shopping experience teaches kids about the importance of giving.
“Doing something for someone other than yourself, plain and simple,” said Brown. “Choosing a loved one and making sure you show your affection to that loved one by doing something for them, and it doesn’t always have to be a present. It could just be a kind act.”
Children were also treated to a pizza party after picking out their presents, while Target staff finished off the shopping experience by wrapping the kids’ gifts.
