Wednesday night was a chance to celebrate the tradition of Buffalo area sports in the annual Greater Buffalo Sports Hall of Fame inductions. The Hall has grown by 12 members, as the Class of 2011 was enshrined.
Headlining this year’s inductees are Pro Bowler Ruben Brown, longtime Sabres broadcaster Jim Lorentz, gold medal bobsledder Steve Mesler, and the late Cookie Gilchrist.
These 12 men and women expressed thrill to be officially recognized in Western New York’s rich sports heritage.
“I’m very happy. I’m happy what it means to all the people making Buffalo a very special place for me,” said Brown.
“It’s so cool. I’m being part of something that the guys who, when I was a kid, I looked up to, and all of my heros are in this,” said Mesler.
“I think the most profound meaning is the perpetuity of the honor. People years from now, perhaps, will tour the Hall of Fame and read about me and know who I was and what I did. That’s quite a great feeling,” said Lorentz.
